October 9, 2010 - "A Year at Milfiori" Art Exhibit and High Tea. a Benefit for the Historic Douglas Flat Pioneer Schoolhouse. 10am to 4pm. Dozens of "en plein air" paintings created over the past year at Milfiori in Douglas Flat will be exhibited and offered for sale. Milfiori is a lovely 150 year old farmhouse surrounded by decades old gardens. The property also includes the first well and the Italian Store which were the hub of the Douglas Flat mining community. Community dances were held in the three story hay barn still standing on the property. The paintings capture the essence of this historic treasure. The art exhibit benefits restoration projects for the oldest schoolhouse in Calaveras County . The Pioneer School, adjacent to Milfiori, was built in 1854 and is now the Douglas Flat Comunity Center. Featured inside the one room building will be artist's paintings of the schoolhouse. The day's events include a silent auction of selected paintings, high tea in the garden, a home tour and other juried artisans. The exhibit is free of charge, the tea is $20.00 or $25.00 with a house tour. 1358 Main St., Douglas Flat. Contact: Willi @ 728- 9842 or Angela @ 728-3975
